equalizing audio and music volume in KQ6 dos?

Postby Johnathon » Thu Nov 30, 2006 6:26 pm

Okay, so... I'm running KQ6 dos. I'm irritated because some of the sound effects, notably the ones on the beach after crashing, and probably the game's music too, are much lower than the audio. Is there any way to adjsust the volume of either the audio sound or the other game sounds/music? Like in resource.cfg or something?

Please help, and thank you in advance.

That would depend on what you're using for the music (MT-32/SC-55 or FM synth/internal MIDI etc). The volume bar in the game controls the music only, I believe, and not the digital sounds. If that's already all the way up you can turn up the source volume in Windows' volume control (if you're running the games under Windows). If you're using an MT-32/SC-55 or some other external midi module you'll have to turn up the input on your sound card where you have it plugged into. If you're running on Adlib FM Synth/internal MIDI then you'll have to turn up the MIDI volume control. If it's still not loud enough try lowering your Wave volume and just turn your output speakers up. That should do the trick. (Doesn't matter if you're using DOSBox, should still work)

If you're running in DOS or something else where you can't control the volume internally like you can in Windows, than you need to use the sound card's DOS utilities (if it has any) to change the volume or if you're using an external module, turn it up as high as it will go. If that's still not enough than you'll need some kind of preamp or mixer to put between the sound card's input and the external MIDI module in the sound chain/pathway so you can turn it up louder than normal.

Try lowering the MIDI slider in your Volume Control in Windows.

To lower/raise SFX and/or speech (digital sound) volume = Wave slider in Windows mixer

To lower/raise MIDI music (MIDI sound) volume = Line In slider in Windows mixer
